Wings Over Miami is the home of F-14D Tomcat.
F-14D Tomcat BuNo 164342 was delivered to the Navy on Aug. 22, 1991. While serving with VF-31 during 2005-2006, 164342 deployed with Carrier Air Wing Eight embarked aboard USS Theodore Roosevelt where it participated in the Last Tomcat Cruise. During the cruise 164342 made it’s 1,000th Arrested Landing. On 10 December 2005, the F-14Ds of VF-31 and VF-213 were upgraded with a ROVER III downlink for transmitting images to a ground Forward Air Controller (FAC). ROVER upgrades to Carrier Air Wing 8 Tomcats doubled the number of aircraft flying Operation Iraqi Freedom missions with this unique capability allowing VF-31 to have a 100% Target Destruction Rate. On March 10th 2006, CVW-8 and VF-31 returned to NAS Oceana from their Deployment. The aircraft arrived at Opa Locka airport on 28 September 2006 where it was demilitarized at the Coast Guard base. About a week later it was taken apart and trucked to the museum. It took about 1 week to put it back together and it’s now on display.
