On Saturday, February 5, 2011 Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen paid a visit to Wings Over Miami Air Museum. The Congresswoman was on her on way back from an airport dedication event in Key West and decided to honor Wings with a visit. Much to everyone’s delight she greeted museum visitors, tweeted and participated in a ceremony honoring Women Airforce Service Pilot Ms. Helen Wyatt Snapp and Ursula Davidson, an aviatrix and member of the 99s, a women’s aviation group. Also visiting with Ms. Ros-Lehtinen were veterans Harry H. Adams and Freddy Ambrose.
WASP Helen Snapp is 93 years young, one of about 1000 women WWII pilots and has had the honor of being one of the few women who has flown the famous Memphis Belle. She is featured in the Museum’s WASP displays and enjoyed pointing out her numerous photos at the museum. Ms. Snapp was presented a Congressional Gold Medal on March 9 2010 and brought it out to the museum with her to share it with the Civil Air Patrol cadets at the museum.
Harry Adams is an active volunteer out at the museum. He works as crew for one of the planes and can often be found in the hangar in a flight suit. While at Wings he spends time with visitors giving insight to the museum and his personal military experiences in Korea and Viet Nam. Harry served both in the Marines and Airforce.
Freddy Ambrose is also a veteran with a strong commitment to community service. He, along with his wife, have collected 1000’s of cards and have sent 100’s of packages to active military overseas. They run a tiny non-profit called “Thinking Of You, Services”. Because their organization is so small, they often foot the costs for purchasing supplies and sending out items to service men and woman.
